Can you believe it is already one week into the new year? Yesterday was my birthday, which, like all of the other holidays, came and went so quickly. I got home from a long work day to find my husband dressed up and ready to take me out to a surprise dinner. I was really impressed with his choice, Sociale, because I didn’t know about this restaurant (and I thought I knew all amazing dinner restaurants in SF by now). They describe themself as “a setting for the marking of time,” and I found it to be the perfect location to celebrate my birthday 🙂 Not only was it a restaurant I didn’t know of, but it had a “secret entrance” off of the street which led down a long alley which opened up to the coziest sight: a charming outside patio lit up with Christmas lights and heaters to keep everyone warm. We decided to take a corner table outside (see it in the photo?), since the weather was nice to me on my birthday and it was an incredibly mild winter night. The inside had a nice ambiance, but almost all tables were taken and it was quite loud from the lively conversation. It was nice to have the option to dine in a more quiet setting outside.
The main theme of this restaurant is Italian, but they offer some dishes I did not find Italian. We usually try to get two different dishes and share, but from everything on the menu we both wanted the Pan-Seared Sea Bass with garlic artichoke and root vegetables. We also tried the braised fennel and carrots side, along with the Parmesan polenta fries. Everything exceeded my expectations. The only disappointing part of the night was not having enough room for dessert, especially because the menu looked amazing!! We decided we will be back just to try the dessert menu 😉
